Pure Blend Co Vegan Protein

I want to tell you a bit about a NEW vegan protein powder that I’ve been testing. The lovely people at Pure Blend Co sent me some samples of two of their new protein powders to test and I am oh so impressed. I’ve been sampling two flavours; Maca & Madagascan Vanilla and Raw Cacao (also in the vegan range are Acai Berry, Blueberry & Camu Camu and Matcha Green Tea & Madagascan Vanilla – how incredible do those sound?!). The vegan range is 100% natural, gluten & dairy free, sugar free, nut & soy free and, the best part, contains nothing artificial whatsoever. This is extremely important to me as a consumer of dietary supplements. I’m firmly believe that eating large amounts of processed foods is detrimental to a healthy lifestyle and so I try to keep my consumption of artificial supplements to a minimum; this can be difficult however if you’re wanting to have a protein shake after a workout or to take other vitamin supplements – many of these can contain preservatives, additives, fillers, thickeners, blending agents and all sorts of nasty stuff that our bodies just don’t need. This is partly why I’m so thrilled that Pure Blend is 100% natural; there is nothing artificial to worry about and I can focus purely on the nutritional benefit.

So, what is the nutritional benefit I hear you ask? Each 25g serving contains between 16g and 18g of protein (which is pretty good for a vegan powder as these are naturally lower in protein than their Whey and Casein cousins) and less than 100 calories. This serving size also hits you with 500mg Omega 3 (the recommended daily dose), 1575mg Omega 6 and 300mg Omega 9. It’s also low in fat, salt and, importantly, sugar – always check out the sugar content of any protein or energy bars you are eating (20g+ of sugar per bar is not good!) – Pure Blend Co Vegan Protein contains only 0.5g sugar!

Okay, now to the taste. Basically, 10/10. The Maca & Madagascan Vanilla powder has the most wonderful creamy and subtly sweet flavour which tastes amazing in a shake, smoothie or bowl of porridge (read on for a cheeky porridge recipe made incredible with the addition of Pure Blend). The Raw Cacao flavour is equally as dreamy and makes a wonderful chocolate-y addition to banana nice-cream, pancakes and bliss balls.

I am so impressed with these powders; as a debut vegan product by Pure Blend Co I think they are exceptional and I can’t wait to try out the other flavours and order myself a HUGE bag of Maca & Madagascan Vanilla powder to put in EVERYTHING.

Pure Blend also have a Whey protein range which is produced from skimmed milk via a filtration process which removes the lactose – so their suitable for people with lactose intolerance – how great is that! This process also allows all the vital amino acids to be retains (these often get lost in heat treatment used on most whey protein to remove bacteria). So, in conclusion, I think Pure Blend Co are a pretty cool company and you should all head over to their Instagram and check them out before I buy up all their products for myself.

Oh yeah, here’s that porridge recipe I promised you:

  • Breakfast Bliss Bowl

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup soya milk
  • 3 tbsp soya yoghurt
  • 25g Pure Blend Co Maca & Madagascan Vanilla vegan protein powder
  • 3 tsp agave nectar
  • 1 banana, sliced
  • Fresh blueberries
  • Pip and Nut coconut-almond butter
  • Coconut shreds

Method

  1. Add oats, water, soya milk, yoghurt, protein and 1 tsp agave nectar to a pan and cook over a low heat until creamy (5-10 mins)
  2. Meanwhile add the sliced bananas to a small pan with the remaining 2 tsp agave nectar and fry gently until golden brown (3-5 mins)
  3. Top porridge with the caramelized bananas, blueberries, nut butter and coconut shreds
